‘Diary of a Housewife’ in ifilm spotlight

Ifilm is airing the finale of ‘Diary of a Housewife’ mid-May 2018. You might find it interesting to look through the following annotation of the series ups and downs, from the standpoint of a local critic.

The series screenplay was drafted by a group of professional writers, building on collective creativity. Each episode enjoyed one or more screenwriters, so the narrative’s range has a different storyline and perspective.

Social problems depicted in up-to-date issues gives the series the upper hand, compared to rivaling productions.

Without any dramatic hesitation, the director takes you, at the outset, to the main social challenge by introducing the lead actress (Shiva) and her family context. The rest of the story then swirls around that core.

The diaries on Shiva’s blog welcome macro-psychological issues within the context of social life that is leading on a day-to-day basis, sharing with the audience the niceties of human relations in a simple framework.

Social media privacy, illustrated in the first episode, as well as love after puberty, which highlights the socially immature younger generation, takes you into the third episode, when more seriousness comes into play, with the issue of criticizing others, and being open to criticism coming to the fore.

Possibly the most interesting and beautiful episode is the fourth, when trust and relations forming around that notion are portrayed.

Issues such as proposing, sharing a family secret and being abused, touch upon the audience as a counselor at home.

Saying goodbye to old friends, in the sixth episode, chronicles a classic mid-life story, with the role of friends in adult life, in the spotlight.

Stories such as ‘No’ (episode 7), ‘ChildRaising’ (episode 12), ‘Bad Luck’ (episode 19), ‘Passengers’ (episode 24), ‘Noble heir’ (episodes 25,26 and 27), and ‘Thanks My Spouse’ (episode 28) are the various interpretations integrated in a warm dramatic whole, and presented to the viewers.

All in all, this is the story of an extremely noble, kind and familial person which is reminiscent of ‘The Green House’, another Iranian popular series aired in the past on the state TV.

The audience empathizes with the events as they unfold, a feeling that reaches its peak in episode 11, which deals with momentarily told lies in a family atmosphere, and delves into how challenges inside a family are formed.

Moreover, privacy in real and virtual life, is a theme pursued along two parallel lines in the screenplay, narrated in episodes of 30 to 40 minutes.

Put in a nutshell, that’s all in all beyond expectations.
